Verizon Offers Best Corporate Mobile Plan, Survey Says

Verizon was named the top U.S. carrier for mobile enterprise applications, according to a recent poll from the Technology Practice at Chadwick Martin Bailey.

The research firm surveyed 114 IT decision-makers from companies with more than 1,000 employees. Respondents ranked Verizon No. 1 with 46 percent of the vote. AT&T Wireless/Cingular was No. 2 with 33 percent. Sprint Nextel logged a distant third with 14 percent. T-Mobile and Alltel took the fourth and fifth places with 5 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

The survey also found the main reason respondents deployed mobile enterprise applications was for increased productivity. Eighty-three percent cited it as a reason for deployment while 42 percent said it was the main reason.

Enhanced employee availability was the No. 2 reason respondents adopted mobile enterprise applications. Four of five (81 percent) said it was one of the reasons while only a quarter (23 percent) said it was the main reason.

Increased collaboration among employees also was cited by two-thirds (67 percent) of respondents; only 16 percent said it was the primary reason for deploying mobile enterprise applications.

The survey also found respondents were wary of deploying mobile enterprise applications due to concern over data security. Seventy-nine percent cited this as a concern and more than half (51 percent) said it was their main concern.

The No. 2 concern was IT support costs. Fifty-eight percent said it concerned them while one in five (18 percent) called it their main concern. Similarly, service costs were cited by 57 percent of respondents as a concern and 16 percent as their main concern.
